A Century of Craftsmanship. A Lifetime of Experience.

Handmade Rugs from Across the World — Curated in Washington DC

For over 40 years, Azad Emporium Rug has served homeowners and collectors across Kensington, Great Falls, and the greater Washington DC area with carefully curated handmade and antique rugs from the world’s most respected weaving traditions.

But our story began long before our doors opened in America.

A Family Legacy in Handmade Rugs

The owner of Azad Emporium Rug grew up immersed in the rug trade.

His family has been in the handmade rug business for over 100 years. His father was one of the largest rug traders in the region, known for deep knowledge, integrity, and strong relationships with master weavers. His mother, while raising nine children, would weave rugs by hand to support the family — preserving tradition one knot at a time.

The craft was not just business. It was life.

Today, his extended family continues the tradition of designing original patterns, training artisans, and preserving authentic hand-knotting techniques. While some focus on machine-made rugs for broader accessibility, the family’s foundation remains deeply rooted in handmade excellence.

That generational knowledge is what defines Azad Emporium Rug.

40 Years Serving Washington DC, Maryland, and Beyond

For four decades, the owner has operated rug stores across Washington DC and Maryland. Over that time, more than one million rugs have found homes across America through his guidance.

Each sale represents more than a transaction. It represents a family adding warmth, character, and heritage to their space.

Our mission remains simple:
Bring happiness into homes through craftsmanship that lasts for generations.

Curated Handmade and Antique Rugs

We specialize in both antique and newly crafted handmade rugs from weaving regions including:

  • Iran and Persian regions

  • India
  • Caucasus and tribal traditions

Each piece is selected based on:

  • Authenticity
  • Knot density and structural quality
  • Material integrity
  • Dye stability

Unlike mass-produced rugs, handmade rugs develop character with time. Many antique pieces have already proven their resilience over decades.

Our collection includes accessible entry pieces starting around $450, as well as collector-level and investment-worthy rugs.
